I was trying to find black LEDs for daytime use, because they draw far, far less (unnoticeable, in fact, even with the best test equipement) power than conventional LEDs, but no one seems to be making them

Maybe you should have been looking for DEDs instead of LEDs.

Since this topic has been hijacked lets through out a couple more terms.

Any body interested in WOM (Write Only Memory). Here's a bit about it.

Another one I remember well that you all might find usefull.

Back in the 60s CPS (Cycles per second) was change to Hertz (HZ). To make that conversion easier a conversion chart was made. You can get your copy here.

yes, gina they are rope lights. i wanted to use them to light up the edge of the path at my former house. it was very dark once the sun went down. never got them installed, had to sell the house and 15 acres when the local taxes skyrocketed to 1/4 my annual income. oh. well, sigh.............

Rope lights:
I wanted to have 120v lights for use with shore power and I came up with this use of rope lights. I have a touch dimmer inside the front door and two joined sections of rope lights. They run from inside the closed across the ceiling, through the storage, back across the ceiling, into the bathroom and ending inside the kitchen cabinets. They give off a good amount of light on high setting (100 watts total) and on the low setting (25 watts total) we use them as a night light.
