Led's not working

Will on over voltage make LED's inoperative?
I was cleaning my Lil Bigfoot today and for ther first time I turned on the interior lights during the day and they didn't work.
They have always worked when needed in the late afternoon or evening.
I changed all the light fixtures and installed the LEDs before I installed the solar panel.
I was out in the yard tonight and noticed a light on in my trailer.
It's dark and everthing is working like it should.
I noticed my Solar panel was putting out a little over 14 volts this afternoon.
Do I need to install a resistor in the light circuit?

John

John,
Overvoltage will damage your LEDs, which will render them inoperative, permanently. I doubt that they would come on again later unless there was some type of photocell circuit that prevented them from coming on in daylight.

Either way, I'd suggest adding voltage regulator chips to your lighting circuits. Radio Shack sells 12v regulators for a couple of bucks. LEDs are expensive and the protection is cheap.

Ron

I agree with Ron, if they come back on then over voltage didn't damage them. Sounds like a loose connection to me. If it only happens during the day, I would suspect an open due to temperature.

Ron's comment about a photo cell makes me wonder, I have some puck lights with photo cell circuits to prevent day time operation. You're not using those are you?

As far as voltage regulators, the better LED fixtures have both polarity and regulation circuitry to eliminate those concerns. Adding an additional regulator might be redundant. Raz

I would check the voltage at the fixtures . My Led fixtures give off little light with low voltage which is not easy to see during the day but at night the light shows up.

They were working today so I think I may have a poor connection somewhere.
Thanks all,
John
