I'm a sailboat owner since 2012. It needs a lot of work to fix it up and I've seen there are a lot of things that could be very similar to campers. I was curious on one product I've seen for boats, but they work for RVs/Campers too but not mentioned here on this forum. I thought I'd introduce the SmartPlug to this group. Like many sailboats, many devices used on RVs/Campers can use a lot of AC power. I've read many sailboats go up in flames or come dangerously close to it, because of
electrical issues. Even from their shore power plugs. Simple twist locks are still used extensively but they seem to be very outdated with todays
electrical demands. Sometimes you have to check which way to plug in the twist connector but the SmartPlug makes it easy as there's no guess work.
I wanted to share the following link. The site is maintained by a guy who goes by the name Maine Sail on various boating forums. He's well regarded for his work in boat maintenance but the info he provides here coud be useful to others.
SmartPlug vs. 1938 Plug
and this link is to the SmartPlug product page:
SmartPlug
The SmartPlug will cost a little more than what has been considered standard for many years but this is a product that is developed and made in the US.
I wanted to share as I haven't seen it mentioned here before. I'm not in the business of selling these, but I do believe in the product. I have a kit myself to install on my own sailboat for peace of mind and if/when I buy a camper, this will be the first mod I will do.
