Solar Panel Sale

Hello,

Home Depot has some nice solar panels for good prices....

Grape Solar 100-Watt Polycrystalline Solar Panel for RV's, Boats and 12-Volt Systems-GS-Star-100W - The Home Depot

Grape Solar 160-Watt Monocrystalline PV Solar Panel for Cabins, RV's and Back-Up Power Systems-GS-S-160-Fab8 - The Home Depot

These panels seem to have good reviews and are a good price for 12V panels...

Each 160W panel produces up to 8.5A current. 30A charge controller should be adequate. Coleman 30 Amp Digital Charge Controller-68032 - The Home Depot

Controller

Hi Frank,

The controller recommended by Servey should
work for the 2 panels. If your budget is a little
more and you want to get the most out of the
panels you would look for a MPPT type controller.
(Maximum Power Point Tracking) I picked up one
recently used on Ebay for about $100. It works
great.

More solar panels....

Hello,

Just noticed what appears to be a good deal for folding 'suitcase'
solar panels.... However, I have not read any reviews on this product.

https://www.solarblvd.com/product_in...oducts_id=2754

I use a single 160W Cynergy panel from these people
and it works well...

https://www.solarblvd.com/product_in...oducts_id=2868

Both of these are available on Ebay with 'free shipping' but appear
to be cheaper when ordered directly and paying the shipping.

Wow, the solar blvd folding suitcase 160 watt seems a good deal with shipping being very reasonable.

The sale was only good through the end of September and they don't stock the panels at Home Depot. All these companies such as Home Depot, Walmart, Sears, etc are now advertising products such as Solar Panels that they don't have in the stores and likely never will stock in the stores. It will ship from the supplier not from them.

This advertising everything possibly related to them works for the stores as they don't have to actually warehouse the products but it still drives traffic to their website where they advertise other products that are in stock. So even if the sales commission they earn on solar panels is not a lot the hook and lure benefit of getting people to their website and then into their physical store for those other sale items that were splashed all over their web page makes up for that. With the demise of news papers and all those subscribers to TV channels that don't run advertising they had to do something and this is one of those things they have done to get you to see their sales ads.

Not saying it was not a good price during the sale, just saying don't go to the store expecting to find the item in stock because it is not sold in the physical Home Depot stores. Maybe someday solar panels will be common in stores but not likely as home owners are usually installing big panel systems rather than smaller panels and portable solutions. But you can find some at the marine supply stores now and again.
