"THUD" when A/C compressor kicks in - fix?

Is there anything that can be done to reduce the thud when the compressor starts on a 2015 Coleman Mach 8? I have the hush kit and it all works great but it would be really nice if the compressor did not come on so strong during the night.

Check the capacitor. If you don't have a multimeter, have an AC tech do it. If it isn't supplying sufficient voltage at start up, that can cause the "thud" you're hearing. Also, I've seen several aftermarket "soft start" kits from various suppliers.

This is one people on this forum have been happy with. Not cheap but apparently it allows the compressor to start up slower, so there is not that sudden "clunk" when it kicks in...

As I understand it, its primary purpose is to limit the initial current draw so that the AC can run from generators, and the noise reduction is a secondary feature Check to make sure it is what you need for your unit and there is not some other problem causing excessive noise.

Note that the good amount of noise from the fan will not be reduced. The "thunk" sound of the compressor coming on has not bothered me, but I understand that some people cannot sleep with that periodic sound.

Thanks - I would welcome any info on the soft start thing. It is a 2015 Mach 8 and there is NOTHING wrong with it - it works perfectly - even better with the hush kit - it just has the normal thud that compressors do when the come on. I want to limit that as much as possible.

It looks like you can count on all the info you need if you give MicroAir a call (at least about their product).

They're pretty proud of their easystart system. Will set you back $300. But by all accounts it does make startup quieter, and means sure starts when using a 2000 watt generator.

Edit: in searching through the forum archives there are many who've installed the Easystart. Don't know if the discount code "CASITA" still works or not, but give it a shot if you purchase one.

Air conditioner thud

I installed a Micro Air in my Airstream 13.500 btu as/c unit and it is fantastic!!! I can now run my A/C unit on one Honda 2000 generator instead of two!!!
No more "hard start" thuds, it seems to save a lot of wear and tear on everyone and everything!!
Not cheap but even the installer couldn't believe the improvement

This is mostly a motor mount internal to the compressor, the electric motor is actually suspended on springs to dampen vibration, I warranty out the compressor when I have this issue and its no external cause.

As the originator of the post linked to above I want to inform everyone that there are TWO versions of the Easy Start
There's a circuit board only that's about half the cost of the same board mounted in a box with wiring attached.

Pick the one that suites you

I have no connection with Micro Air other then being a happy user of their product.

I bought the cheaper board only as I have more time then money

Harry.
All Mach8 units make this noise, I believe it's because the compressor is laying down flat. To make matters worse they have the compressor cycling on and off fairly often.
