Unhappy what happened? Lights now dull.

Replaced 2002 Scamp bulbs with LEDs. Worked great. Decided to add another light by doorway. Added third black wire to where 2 black wires connected (since splits to run 2 lights). Did same with white wires. After wiring it wouldn't light. Disconnected and hooked it back up the way it was. Now lights on one side of trailer light but are dull. When I turn them all on one doesn't even light. I am plugged in to house so nothing to do with battery. What happened?????

These things can be very frustrating. Check the simplest things first. Usually something you did, recheck all messed with connections. Maybe you tugged on a wire and it came loose somewhere else?

But why dull? Shouldn't they either light or not?

I don't know but if the LEDs might act "funny". Before I changed out the old converter for a new PD one my new LED lights would flash with one fan running, but not with two or no fans running.

My first, uneducated guess when I hear dull lights is "bad ground" but as the LEDs don't pull much juice I don't know.

Again, check the simplest stuff first, you did something.

I understand that you can trip something but still see a dull light.

If U bought the really cheep LEDs then connected them up backwards, you may have burned out some of the diodes. The more expensive LEDs can B connected either way because they contain circuitry to do that.

If you have a faulty ground they may not light up fully.

Just recheck all your wiring. On the DC side of wiring I like to use RED for + and BLACK for - . A C wiring, Black for hot and white for return and green for ground.

Question Now really confused due to hooking up wires

3 times while working on them they came up very dull and if I turn a lot of them on some don't light up at all. 3 times I give up and turn them off and come back later they all light up bright. They are working now brightly. Can power be reduced temporarily and then reset to full power due to the hooking up of wires "sparking" or something?

Poor Ground is the most common problem in wiring .most trailers white is power as for the leds not lighting swap the wires around . had the same problem on mine .also in mine black had power .use a multi meter to confirm.

I'm glad they are now working OK. One other thing to look for other than a bad ground -

If you are powering the LEDs from a converter that has a blown fuse indicator LED on the panel, you may have blown a fuse. The LED lighting fixtures draw so little current that they will glow dimly if they are the only thing on the circuit even with a blown fuse because the indicator LED on the converter passes enough current to make them glow.

Just wondering if cold temperature may affect some LED lights - just a thought .

: most times when the lights are dull or weak means loose ground wire or not connected at all.

Wink best answer

Thanks for all the help!!!!!! Best answer to my ex-problem with very dull LEDs seems to be that the converter cut the power while I was working on them every time and they just glowed. After it reset they stopped glowing and have lighted brightly ever since. Several times after I worked on them it seemed to reset on its own after a period of time left alone. Does this make sense since I didn't do anything to the box any of the 3 times?
