Wire - Fuses - Switches - Grounding

  • I've got my 1 Battle Born lithium 100 ah battery and will order a 2nd in near future.
  • Expect 2 Renogy 300w 24v solar panels to arrive today (Amazon price was cheaper than Renogy sales price).
  • Expect mounting hardware for solar panels tomorrow (AM Solar).
  • Ordered Victron SmartSolar MPPT 150/60 Solar Charge Controller from Battle Born.
  • Ordered Aims 2000 Watt Pure Sine Wave Inverter from Battle Born.
  • Ordered Victron BMV-712 Smart Battery Monitor with Built-In Bluetooth from Amazon.
Now it's a matter of figuring out what size wire I need for each connection, what size fuses I need and where they go, what switches or breakers I need and where, and how do I ground everything. Should be interesting as I'm learning as I go.

Solar Installation

For the DC, you need to install 8 gauge automotive multi strand wire.

20 Amp fuses at the battery on the DC portion, you are protecting the wire size.

Circuit breakers for AC power. AC wiring needs 12 gauge and multi strand also.

Lots of zip ties to keep the wire held in place.

DC (-) ground to the DC post on the Battery.

DC (+) positive to the DC (+) post on the battery.

AC Ground to the AC Ground on the external Power plug.

AC neutral to the AC neutral on the external power plug.

AC power to the AC power (Black) on the external power plug.

Where does one find NM ( Romex ) cable with stranded conductors ?
The AC power in a trailer is run in a cable assembly not as individual wires
I would suggest you consult the NEC Chapter 3 wiring methods and the section that specifically applies to RV’s

I buy stranded Romex from marine supply stores. It is needed on boats as well as RVs.

If you have a local electrical supply store, the place where electrical contractors go for tools and materials (not Home Depot) they may stock it.
