98 burro water, black, and gray tank supports

My 17wb burro has chains supporting all 3 tanks and I am afraid of chafing a hole on the edges. I have slipped padding as needed to help but was wondering if 2” seat belt webbing would work. Believe it or not the chains are how it was made, have seen others. I had a fuel tank on a cal 27 sailboat chafe through and was not fun to replace. Or maybe metal strapping with padding. Going to California next month and would like the piece of mind

Do you have slack enough to slide metal ells between the tanks and chain? You see that done on some semi loads to protect the corners of the stacked product.

I have done that but the whole method of chains seems like trouble waiting to happen and the seat belt or tow strap webbing would seem to be much friendlier on the plastic tanks

I would worry about the webbing rotting out, see a local steel shop and get some 1/8 stainless 1 inch wide and bend it to fit, fasten the ends the same place as the chains

That would probably be a better long term solution, maybe with some rubber padding. I can hardly believe the chain supports haven’t worn a hole yet in 20years
