Can I "Rocket Pump" from my garden hose?

Old manual pump not working. Inside water reservoir leaking.
So while my beautiful (to me) tiny Burro is a guest room, I thought I'd 'just' hook up my garden hose to my new Rocket Pump. Then later fix the inside reservoir and toggle between water tank and city water with the same pump.

Did I totally miss the Rocket Pump use?
Is it possible to use it with 'city water'?

I have the hose hooked up, and added a water regulator screw on, and have the hose water turned real low............
but
the rocket pump won't turn off the water.
In the 'far back' position (which is the 'hold the prime' position, i think) there is the singing pipe noise and continued running water. Is this the sound of more pressure than it can take?

My work-around for now will probably be the same set-up, but with the hose going into a large covered potable-water barrel with a top bung hole...
would the "Rocket Pump" be able to pump from there considering the large diameter of the hose?

Any help....
and of course I would prefer to be able to use my new Rocket Pump.
and boy, it sure is a TINY work space under that sink!
Thanks so much.
Colleen

(my Burro looks great after a wash with BKF. Thanks!)

If you're hooked up to "city water" you don't need the pump. Your faucet works "on demand." Now, if your tank is used, that's where you use the pump... to pump water to the faucet.

so... that means i can not use the Rocket Pump for on-demand faucet use.
And if I want on-demand water, I need to buy a different fixture.

Correct?

Thank you.

No, it just means you need a tank to use the pump. On demand means you're hooked up to a non-tank water supply.... like a hose.

What does your faucet look like?

Unless your pump is a dual flow or 2-way it isn't designed to handle water under pressure. Those type of pumps will typically have a small diameter hose hookup for tank and a larger one for city water hookup.

You can pretty clearly see the dual hookups in this item from amazon (not endorsing just good example)
Amazon.com: J & C Water Systems R3700CW Colonial White Dual Flow Water Pump: Automotive

Hand pump works by creating enough pressure to drive water past check valve into faucet each time you pump handle. City water will always have pressure so out the faucet water comes.

Got it!
I need a dual faucet/pump. (or an additional faucet).
Now I can quit wasting time on an idea that won't work, and get busy on a new idea!
Thank you!

Just a thought, those Home Depot orange 5 gallon "Homer" buckets can be purchased with lids. One 5 gallon with fresh water for the pump line and one 5 gallon for a drain bucket might work. Should be pretty easy to mount hose connector into lids.

Or one of those blue rolling tanks made for the sink drain if you wanted to spend the extra money and use it at campgrounds. Some of places are fussy about the drain buckets being sealed and your home built one might be questioned.
