No, don't do that.
I'd be curious to see a picture of both hose ends.
Replacement hose ends are not expensive and relatively easy to replace, usually screwing onto the corrugated hose, sometimes with a hose clamp. Whole hoses with fitting at both ends aren't gruesomely expensive and might be easier all around. Prices usually depend on how thick the hose material is, thicker hoses usually lasting longer.
I'm not familiar with the 1996. I think there are two outlets. I'll defer with someone more familiar but I just wanted to urge you to wait until you get a little more info...
