How Do You Move Tote Box to Sani Dump
If a sani dump is not available in your campground and you have to transport your waste water tote box to a site further away how do you put the container in the back of your pick up to take it to the appropriate site. One thought is to keep the box in the back of the pick up while filling up a bucket from your trailer and taking it to the container in the back of the truck. Another thought is to rig up some sort of a come a long to get the tote box up a ramp into the back of the pick up. This is only for gray water, though. Comments, please. Thanks, Jim

I know this varies by location, but we have taken our gray water container to the on-site restrooms and flushed it down the toilet. No one has ever commented to us that this is inappropriate, but I understand some septic systems don't like the extra load. We do the same with our Porta-Potti.
If there isn't a bathroom available (rare situation), we do put the lid on the container and transport to the nearest available dump spot. Our container is a Coleman beverage container that holds about 3 gallons of water and has been modified to accept our gray water output through a hose.

I have never had this requirement, but if I did I would consider using a pump which attaches to the waste outlet to pump into the portable tank through a small hose. The commonly available pumps which come set up this way are macerator designs (e.g. FloJet RV Waste Pump Kit); they are expensive (although lots of sources would not be as expensive as Camping World) but can handle black waste as well. A "trash" utility pump would handle gray waste, but would require some custom rigging.
If desired, the same pump could be used to empty the portable tank into the final destination, especially if the portable tank has the same style of waste outlet as the trailer.

I have seen people attach the handle of the tank to the ball hitch and tow it to the dump station behind their TV. The dump tanks have wheels.

We watched one of those leak all the way to the dump last summer, right across the road in front of our campsite.

I built my own tote. Seven gallons, I pick it up and carry it. I guess I'm lucky, the campgrounds I typically go to, if I'm not totally hooked up, have gray water dump stations about every 5th camp site. When I use it for black water I carry it to the restroom. Easy peasy if I don't let it get too full.

I have a small 5 gallon tote for gray water only. I carry it to a toilet to dump.

Yes, but I thought that the need is to travel to another location, beyond where one can drive at a walking pace with a tote in tow:

Same here. I bought a couple of smaller water containers at a garage saleto use. (5 and 8 gal). I also bought a foldup all terrain dolly to lug them to the dump station if its a bit of a haul. But I'm able to load them into the pickup bed too if there's no place to dump close by.

Roy, that is another thought I am keeping in mind. I bought a very inexpensive drill attachment that will put the gray water into/out of the tote tank while keeping the tank in the pickup, so perhaps this is the way to go.
Thanks everyone for their suggestions as well and some very good suggestions.

I've got a 12gal. wheeled tote. I filled it once and boosted it up into the back end of the 4runner which may be a bit lower than the box on a full size p'up. The day when I need a larger auxiliary tank, a come along and a ramp, I'll have a going out of camping sale.

Jim, I agree with the others this is one situation where bigger isnt always better. I have a small tote, under 10 gallon grey/black water - it looks like a Therford. You can drain off as needed and its not so heavy it cant be loaded into the back of a car or truck if you need to go long distant with it and it doesnt take up a lot of storage space when not in use.

I keep it small (5 gallono) and dump more often. But since I only have a kitchen sink, I don't produce as much grey water as if I had a shower too.
