Larger Fresh water Tank Ideas

I have a 2003 16' Scamp SD. The only thing I don't like about the Scamp is the small fresh water tank. Has anyone added a larger tank and if so where did you get it and how hard was it to install?

What goes in must come out, I think the freshwater tank is matched to the gray and black tanks for volume. Remember too, there's about 8lbs to every gallon of water. Both things to consider.

I'd argue that the various tanks are not very well matched in their capacity. The fresh water tank is 12 gallons, black water 9 gallons (If I remember right...) and grey water is 26 gallons. I almost always run out of fresh water before I fill any waste tank.

I've looked into replacing my water tank with a larger tank, but so far have not actually done so. There certainly looks like there is enough space under the dinette seat. If I was concerned about weight and balance ( and I am a bit concerned - my Scamp is a bit heavy on the curb side ), I could re-locate the fresh tank to under the street side dinette seat.

Another member, Thane Lundberg, replaced his water tank with a custom made water tank one to fit the space.

Dan, while boondocking using your freshwater tank, that would in fact, be the case. But, when you're on city water, that 26 gal gray tank comes in really handy for extending the time between trips to the dump station. When I had my Scamp 16 CD and I was hooked up to a city tap, I could live pretty recklessly for about 4 days and use as much water as I needed before I had to dump. Had I been frugal with my water use, I could have gone nearly a week without dumping.

I also second Donna's thought about the weight. The fresh water tank, when full, puts nearly 80 lbs under the curbside rear lazarette, aft of the axle and on the extreme outboard curb side. Anything larger located in that spot could easily become a tongue weight/balance issue.
