Need plumbing advice

I will soon be installing a toilet and in our Scamp 13 and in the interest of avoiding another hole in the shell am considering venting it through the floor. I would plumb the vent by vertically running it a few feet above the highest point in the toilet and then do a "U" turnaround and run it down through the floor. I'll cap it with a screen to keep insects out.

I realize this is an unorthodox approach. AM I MAKING A MISTAKE???

I would appreciate any thoughts or comments. Thanks.

The gasses will want to rise, if you loop the vent down the gasses will collect in your holding tank and when you flush the gasses will come back through the comode opening. Scamp holding tanks are normally vented through the side of the trailer through a small louvered opening.

If your going to run it up a few feet, why not just take it through the roof.
A vent cap and your done. Why make it complicated?

This is a link that shows what Eddie mentioned. Norm posted this back in February. Slick idea for flushing the black water tank. Better than sticking a hose through the window and down to the toilet IMHO. On my Scamp the vent pipe comes out of the top of the black water tank ... up and out to the side of the trailer.

The end result will be as if you had not vented the toilet at all after all that plumbing construction.
The gasses in the tank will vent to the highest opening which will be into the trailer every time you flush.

I was going to suggest using a "cheater" vent like in a house, thinking that the purpose of the vent was to allow air into the plumbing pipes for the flush and draining of the tank.

Roy, what is a cheater vent (one way valve perhaps?)

This sounds like something I might consider for my sink, which I plan to drain into a portable tote tank.

LOL I suspect the easiest would be to just put the little vent in the side as Scamp does - I have never had any leak issues with it.

Neither have I, nor smells, but I do use chemicals.
