New hand pump faucet- valterra rocket or whale V or...

When checking the water line, we realized that the old hand pump had snapped at the water line. BOO!

New pump needed. Reading through the forum, I see the Valterrra rocket hand pump recommended a bunch; $26 on Amazon.

But I also see the whale foot pumps recommended on here (not doing a foot pump due to small children), which led me to the whale V hand pump and great if only a few reviews of that on Amazon. $60 after shipping

Has anyone used both? Is there another I should consider?

Thanks!

Check Valve

Hello,

I have been using a hand pump similar to
the Valterra for many years. Whatever your
decision on the pump you should consider
installing an in line check valve near the pump.
The check valve will prevent water flowing back
to the tank. When you pump water next it will
be there on the first wobble of the lever instead
of being there after many wobbles of the handle
to get the water all the way up from the tank.
I have found that this makes the hand pump
much more friendly. Now, if someone would let
me know how I can get both hands under the
spigot at the same time while pumping I would
be very grateful.....

If the pump is self priming,do we need a check valve, too? I'll totally install it if we do!

We went ahead and ordered the Whale V...it looks nice, too...

We have the foot pump precisely so we can wash both hands at once! We come from boating background so a foot pump was an old familiar friend.
I'm curious? Why do you say having small kids precludes use of a foot pump?
It sure clears up the counter space.

Cause they will play with it. how does it save counter space, out of curiousity? Don't you need a faucet there as an outlet?

The foot pump only requires a spigot not the whole mechanism. I'm in the process of moving mine up the back wall in my Compact II so I have better clearance for filling jugs, etc.
it takes a pretty good force to pump the one I have. Definitely a step on, not a wiggle.
I'll post pictures when/if I get it done.
