Waste blade valve

Every now and then the handle comes detached from the blade and people wonder why you can't just screw the handle back to the blade. The shaft just fits in a notch when it jumps out the grove, that's it. You can see why the handle just spins around.

I don't know much about these, but could you just drill a couple of small holes on either side of the rod and then wire or zip tie around the rod to secure it within the notch? That's what Bubba might do!
