Do not think you will ever regret electric trailer brakes, I am so glad we have them but you may need a battery and breakaway switch then.

In Ontario the MTO rules make it so we can not pull our trailer without brakes as the trailer weight is over 50% of the car weight. The car is just over 2700 so 1400 or more we needed brakes. We also needed the breakaway switch as that is law in Ontario with electric brakes.
Brakaway switch was only $17 but the battery may hurt if you do not have one; most 13' units have a battery.

Dealer recommended the transaxle cooler and our Corolla came new with brake module and a hitch installed when we purchased the car along with all of the available optional safety systems. The last trip was only 1 1/2 hours; mostly up hill and the car did it fine no change in temp guage. The return trip will be mostly down hill so again glad we have brakes.

Hope your summer was as good as ours.

We have only taken it on short hauls, so far, without any problem (have not put any brakes on it). We have not done any mountains yet, but I think I may go with the electric brakes, rather than the surge ones, as we do want to travel to the US southwest next year.

Do not think you will have any problems with a 13' trailer they are so light weight but even surg brakes are a good idea.

We have regular 10” electric brakes on the boler with a proportional braking module in the car; so no push from behind. This system is much better than a surge type system.
This boler trailer was factory built with brakes and the brakes had been fixed prior to us getting it.
Currently the trailer is parked up near Tobermory will have to bring it south to the Tara area to be stored for the winter soon.
The Corolla pulls fine at 90 km/h would not want to go any faster. Passing is out of the question but we are not in a hurry.
The hills we went up and down are all short but some are kind of steep; Owen Sound is in a Valley; would not want to do the Rockies.

We have only towed it twice, so far and have not done any heavy mountain climbing. We are planning to put surge brakes on the Boler and we did add a transmission cooler to the car. So far, so good.

Wonder how you are making out with the Corolla and towing
