I should add, If you work in Oregon for an Oregon company and live in Washington, you still pay Oregon income tax even if you live in Washington.

I live just across the Columbia River from Portland International Airport. I really do not see any significant differences In emissions testing from Oregon to Washington.

When I moved here from Chicago, I chose Washington because I was working for a Illinois company and covering a multi state territory and if I lived in Oregon I would have to pay Oregon income taxes on all of my earnings. Oregon income tax is over 8%. Washington has no state income tax. Oregon real estate taxes are considerably higher than Washington. Oregon has no sales tax while Washington has sales tax over 8%. There are more large retailers on the Oregon side of the river because many Washington residents shop retail in Oregon to avoid the tax. If you live in Washington and buy anything that requires a license (car, truck, trailer) in Oregon, you pay the Washington tax when you register it.

I love the Pacific Northwest. The tax situation worked out better for me in Washington. Both states are great places.
