Unfortunately you have to expect problems with a trailer this old. If it makes you feel any better I thought my boler was in great shape when I bought it, only to find out it had VERY serious problems.

I would recommend you make it safe and reliable for this year, wheel bearings, tires, propane and electrical. Then spend the summer enjoying it and discovering how you like the trailer and what you need. Then in "bite size" mini projects start to tackle it in a logical order. It won't be perfect for a few years but every year you will make memories and it will take shape and get better, becoming your ideal trailer. Mine has taken 4 years of work but I have never missed a summer camping. We have traveled from Calgary to Vancouver, southern Oregon, Manitoba, Alaska and the Yukon.

Any advice or questions you have please ask, I am happy to help and I hope we can meet in a campground or at a fiberglass event this coming summer.

    Hi Laura & Bill
The upper cabinets would not provide any support to the walls, in fact if they are loaded with items they would place more load on the walls. They would add some strength to the roof but actually where the upper cabinets are mounted is the strongest areas on the trailer, the transition between the roof and wall. The problem usually exists because of frame problems where the walls are not supported evenly, this can also be caused it the floor itself is weakened or rotting. The second issue is the actual structural support for the walls, namely the closet wall or the steel post on the hinge side have become loose.
