Great gas mileage, great towing capacity, and 6 speed manual transmission. My dream car.

It looks good, and we can hope it reaches North America. Many vehicle manufacturers have small efficient diesels, but do not offer them in North America because there is not enough demand. I think and hope this will change soon too, but until the mindset of the masses changes from bigger is better, we will not see all these diesels offered here. 3 years ago when looking for a new small size SUV, I was looking at a Nissan and went online to look for reviews. I kept coming up with reviews from Europe and Australia saying to make sure you got the 2.2 diesel with it. This was unavailable here.

I'm waiting to see the future. In our household we drive a Honda and a Subaru. Each dealer has told me a diesel is coming. Latest news was Honda may put a diesel engine in a CRV and Subaru said it was likely going to go in the Outback. Rumours Rumours. We will have to wait and see.

I emailed Subaru and said I wanted the diesel here... a little public pressure can't hurt.

No it can't, always a good idea. Since I posted and now, I had a conversation with a German carpenter that works for me, and he was telling me of all the small vans and pickups they have there that are diesel powered and get great fuel economy. I would really like to have one of those for my Production Manager to run around in. He puts on a fair few miles every year, and needs to be able to haul materials. Something like this would be way more economical for us to operate. I think I will send an email too.

I have always liked the Subaru but considdered them underpowered for proper towing. With a small deisel engine I think that it would be well worth looking at.

I think it said 4400 lbs towing but how that would translate in the US is another question. I'd be happy with 2000 but for most people a little more would be nice.

I hate giving up the manual transmission for towing so this would be nice.

Those Subaru's are amazing vehicles. You better get one while you have the opportunity.

I had an accquaintance tell me yesterday that the faster he goes in his Subaru the better gas milage he gets. A claims he gets 40 MPG at 90 MPH. Much less than 40 MPG when he slows down.

Folks, we will not see those diesels in the USA. The very strict emissions standards here in the US prevent many of the European vehicles from even entering the US. The standards even get worse in 2010. Ford and GM have shelved plans for new smaller diesel engines because of the cost of the emissions and the fact they are in a downturn economy.

Here is another Europe only diesel that would make a nice tow vehicle here...... a Ford Ranger crew-cab diesel.
