Keeping the icebox cold

We purchased a new 16 foot Scamp this spring. We love it except for the fact I can't get the icebox cold enough. I put 2 blocks of ice in the top part but the bottom isn't cold enough. Should I be putting ice in the bottom too? Then I'm not going to have room for anything but ICE! Any help would be appreciated.

A refrigerator fan would probably help: Search - refrigerator fan - Camping World I have one like the blue one for my 3-way. But, since you're dealing with ice, I'd suggest carrying a cooler for beverages. That way you can keep the ice box door closed and the "food" colder. For some reason, the constant need for "beverages" can just about wear out the door on the refer/ice box :-)

Thanks Donna. I just checked those out. Looks like a winner, going to give it try!

Our ice box was a great storgage place since we had to bring a cooler anyway but we do love the refer on our 5th wheel.

I had an icebox in my old pop up camper. It was okay for hot dogs... but we kept most everything else in the cooler. Now, if you can get your hands on a small chunk of dry ice, you might be able to turn the icebox into a freezer!

By the way, there are companies that sell kits to turn an icebox into a fridge. Probably easier to just replace it with a fridge, though. I'm getting ready to replace the original fridge in my '84 with a new one. Camping world has 1.9 cubic foot Dometic fridges for $484. Mice gets cold... but it has a big freezer section which is just about useless to me. It's a bit rusty around the edges, too.
