1982 Burro Restoration

Hi. Another newbie to this great forum. Iím a teardrop owner living in north Idaho who recently purchased a 1982 Burro to begin restoring. Wife and I wanted to be able to stand up when we retreated from bad weather but still love the teardrop.

Anyway, I have a ton of questions because the interior of the Burro has been completely gutted. Iíll start with a couple simple questions. Can anyone recommend a source for a door seal that is close to what the original seal was?

Also could anyone email me some pics showing an original door striker plate? My door has the original latch/handles/locking hardware but just a couple holes where the striker plate used to be. If anyone can help, would love to hear from you. Thanks. cdawill2@gmail.com

cda will, Bill, welcome to FGRV. If anyone can help you, they surely will. We were able to gut and rebuild our Amerigo FG-16 entirely with so much help from the members here! My best wishes for a quick answer!

If you go to the "search" at the top of each page, and use the lower blank to type in exactly what you want, then scroll down the results, there is a good chance you can find either a precise answer or enough to go on with--as well as waiting for replies. I haunted FGRV for 9 months while we redid "Peanut."

Good luck on your restoration and
happy camping!

BEST

Hi Bill,
I'm attaching some pics of the striker plate on my 89 burro, as well as the latch to see if it matches yours. You can also see the trim lock seal in one of the pictures that goes around the entire door, if you go to the trimlock website you will find it.

I never heard of the trim-lock with the (flexible) seal attached.

My Burro door is edged in the same type of "hard" trimlock that is used on the vertical seam of the egg--no flexible rubber attached.

Previous owner had some kind of weather stripping that had deteriorated. I have new separate flexible rubber seal on the top edge of the door that stops most rain.

How to measure to know which size?

Looked up those seals but with 164ft rolls, that would be a bit too much.

I looked up "trim seal" at McMaster Carr and looks like they have some options. I wonder how well they would work.

You can also get trim lok with the side bulb on amazon in 25' lengths. You would have to measure the thickness of the fiberglass that the rigid part fits onto to get the right size.

Thank you all for the responses to my first post. Think it will take me a little time to learn my way around this forum. Thank you Anne for the great pics, they are very helpful. Your striker plate appears to be a change from what was originally on my 1982 model. Looks like there may be several options to look at as far as door seals. A local owner has a trailer similar to the Burro and he used a 3/4Ē, self adhesive foam with good results.

I think Iím going to try and attend a couple rallyís and get some ideas and pics as soon as I can. Meanwhile, Iím trying to learn, electrical, fiberglassing etc.
