The two campgrounds we have used in our travels through Omaha have been the Offutt AFB FAMCAMP (if you're eligible) and the last time we went through we tried a city park in Papillion called Walnut Creek Recreation area, which was pretty nice.
A little further South of Omaha we always enjoyed Indian Cave state park.
If you enter into Omaha from I-80, and like trains, there is a nice display just as you cross the river at Kenefick park.

Well it's not exactly near Omaha (185 miles west), but we spent a night at Fort Kearney State Recreation Area, just off I-80 south of the town of Kearney NE. Very nice well-maintained park with large sites, many of them backing up to ponds. We were on our way to Rocky Mountain National Park in Colorado, and it was a great stopping point. Site had electric but no water or sewer.

Have a great trip!

Two Rivers State recreation area just south of Valley, NE (just west of Omaha).
Plenty of sites, fishing, swimming (maybe not in March) & you can stay in a repurposed railroad caboose if you want.

My parent's farm is just down the road.(Not ours any more)

Eugene Mahoney NE State Park
THis is one of my all time favorite state parks: Eugene Mahoney NE State Park.

But it won't be as neat in March as it would have been in the summer.

THis is one of NE premier resort state parks. It has a theater where in the summer melodramas are performed. Very inexpensive. Cool thing is using the same 4 actors and actresses they rotate through 4 different melodramas for 4 nights. So during a weekend you can see a different melodrama every night. Also has a water park complete with a lazy river ride and water slides. Last i remember they have ponies little kids can ride. Miniature golf. Climbing ropes course. And more. . . But in March many of the things I mentioned above won't be happening.

Two Rivers State Park or Mahoney State Park both awesome choices. In the same area is Platte River State Park

Mahoney is closest to I80 for ease of travel

Eugene Mahoney NE State Park
Yes I forgot that it is so close to I-80 that you actually can hear the highway noise at times.

A bit of downside.

You may run into campgrounds still being closed in the Omaha area in March. I know the West Omaha/Lincoln KOA doesn't open until April 1. Perhaps this would be a good time to try a Flying J truck stop or a Walmart. It can still be pretty cold there, too, so you may not want to de-winterize your water lines until farther south.

Just checked...Mahoney State park is open all year, so this might be a great option. It's between Omaha and Lincoln.

I stayed at the city's Cunningham Lake campground last year. It was pretty much a disaster, no on site management at all. As a result, the campground was full of squatters.

I noticed the city closed this campground. Hopefully they will manage it better if they ever reopen it.

I like to stay in Omaha for a couple of days in early May to attend the Berkshire Hathaway annual meeting. Drover Restaurant has the best steaks I have ever eaten, they recently had a fire, but they are rebuilding. Hopefully it will be open by the time I visit Omaha.

I live in Omaha.

Two Rivers or Mahoney are your best bets. Both camp all year. Water will be off in the camps but available nearby.

Mahoney is noisy.

Hi Joni,

You did not say the route you are taking to Texas. If you are staying on I-29 no one has mentioned Bluffs Run (42 sites) at Horeshoe Casino in Council Bluffs. across the interstate from that is Cracker Barrel with 5 RV spots. Of course neither would be pretty or relaxing. If you are just stopping for the night I wanted to point them out. Others mentioned the other places I would recommend.
