Jacking

To clarify, my trailer was never jacked up using the axle as the jacking point. It was my mistake...I assumed, given the bend at the mid-point of the axle, that it had been jacked. The irregular tire...

Reporting Back

Returned from my trip south and put on about 4,500 miles.... no abnormal tire wear. Everything was good. So, as stated above, it was my failure to check and adjust bearings each year that resulted in...

AXLE NOT BENT

OK, Here is the update. Had alignment checked; it is perfect. So it seems I have been negligent Re: the bearings. I have the easy lub feature; and every year I repacked the bearings using the easy...

#10 Torflex 3.5K axle camber and toe settings

Thanks for the detailed input. I spoke to a very experienced trailer axle guy.. he noted Dexter is quite vague about camber and toe settings as people do very different things with their trailers. He...

Camber and Curve of axle

Of note, the wheels are off the ground (on stands). One wheel hangs perfectly vertical, the other is different with a positive camber of 3/4" (bottom of wheel is turned in... does not hang...

Took Measurements

I measured the curve in the centre of the axle; there is 1/2" difference between the centre and the edges of the axle where it attaches to the frame.
I checked the camber of the elevated wheels:...

Tire wear driving home

Yes the new tires had abnormal wear.... but I'm the guilty party, which only serves to confuse the issue. When arriving in Utah I noticed my tires were bald on inner and outer edges (original tires,...

Doesn't Make Sense

I agree it doesn't make sense to jack in the middle of the axle; but that's what they obviously did. This was in September in Hurricane Utah; I live in Vancouver BC.. so I don't see trying to get...

Really BENT

It was jacked up in the middle of the axle and I can clearly see how it has been bent up. Was not like this until they serviced trailer with new tires.

Bent torflex 3.5K Dexter axle

A shop in Utah changing tires on my 17' Escape single axle trailer, jacked my Torflex axle at the mid-point and bent it upwards. I just noticed this while replacing brake assemblies and repacking...

New Info.

Thanks everyone for your input. I found out the spare tire sits about 6" out from the bumper; and is above the bumper, with the 6 volt batteries on each side. So my Thule 912XT should work, although...

Bicycle Rack on back of 17' Escape

I am looking at a Thule 912XT Roadway 2 bic hitch carrier for the back of my Escape trailer. It weights about 35lb. It also sits too far out from the bumper... so I plan to cut off about 6" to bring...

E-Z lube Video

I think the video says it all... we do a lot of very remote dry camping and could be pulling our new Escape through water that comes over the axle. I really like the idea of being able to purge out...

Seals and E-Z lub dexter axle

If you look at the Dexter E-Z lub axle, it is designed to circulate the grease over both bearing sets, then out by the nipple. They recommend not using a pressurized grease gun, but to gently pump a...

Getting Input

This thread is extremely helpful to me and much appreciated. So far I'm inclined to go with the E-Z lub bearings and Nev-R-Adjust brakes from Dexter. A related question is whether or not to use...

Self adjusting brakes

Yes, Reese has said they can be ordered with the e-z lub axle... he wasn't too keen on them; said they were fairly new and there might be problems. But I'm inclined to get them unless others nix them...
