Dexter axle

I live in Calgary. I went to a local shop called Standen's and ordered a Dexter axle. Although the old axle was rated at 2,000-lb, they were able to beef the replacement up to 2,200-lb. (Didn't want...

5 cylinders suck

You will likely make it with your four-banger, but it will not be a joyful experience. I switched from a 4-cylinder Escape to a Canyon V6, and I much prefer the extra power.

Agree with all these comments. Towing is the Achilles heel in electric, with current battery technology. (Not to mention the c-c-c-c-cold up here in Canada. LOL) There are interesting efforts being...

make sure to try the regulator

Dometics get a bad rap, but they're pretty simple. If the jet is clean, then the next thing to suspect is the regulator coming off your propane tank. Rather than pay to adjust the old one, I just...

Breakaway switch even for light trailers

Great points by all. I'll just add that my 1,300 pound Aliner has a breakaway switch, and I love that little extra peace of mind. Your trailer brakes also need to be well maintained to ensure they...

Got that sucker cooling

Thanks to everyone for their great tips. I've discovered more about Dometic fridges than I'd ever imagine I could.

Good news: Mine is fixed, thanks to two very simple moves:

1. Took the...

all-vinyl click flooring

I used an all-vinyl click flooring. Waterproof and not nearly as heavy as regular click flooring. Nice to work with and it fits so tightly together I'm not worried about it lifting up on its own. In...

pipe cleaner

I'm going to have to get that jet out and visually inspect it. I think I was pretty careful when I tried to clean it, but I'm not 100 % confident that I haven't caused some harm.

I bought the...

great tips

These are super-helpful ideas, folks. I have the fridge out already, so I'll start with a thorough cleaning. But the tip about checking the propane pressure makes a lot of sense to me. I suspect that...

Dometic 3-way fridge not cooling on gas

Hi: I have a small Dometic fridge - model RM 4223. It cools well on 120 and 12V, but barely cools on gas. Tried cleaning the gas tip with a pipe cleaner and alcohol, but that didn't really do the...

Avoid CVs, FWD

CV transmissions are generally not rugged enough to handle towing (although Aisin trannies by Toyota are better than others). Still, I would absolutely avoid them. FWD is the poorest drive...

Consider the Canyon/Colorado

You should consider adding the Canyon/Colorado to your list -- V6 with the crew cab. Not sure why you would need AWD, because that adds significantly to the cost. I purchased my Canyon last summer,...
