Actually, if you are prepping the cabinets, just lightly sand to make surface receptive and pour out and always use OIL BASED primer! No matter what final paint, OIL BASED PRIMING is essential.

When I chalk paint on areas that get high use or are going to go in bathrooms, I coat with water based varythane coating a couple of times. You can still put wax on that if you want.
