adding step to Scamp

Hello all!
I ordered the fold up step from Scamp, and am now trying to figure out how to mount it.
Has anyone done this?
Thought an attached fold up permanent step would be preferable to hauling around the plastic step we have been using.
Any advice for adding the step along with photos will be greatly appreciated!

We prefer the plastic step, as it can be placed in different positions depending on the terrain. The attached metal steps, to me, seemed to be too close to the trailer, and not as sturdy. And, they can be damaged if you drive over something high and hard.

I'd second this; as, while parking in a tight spot, I experienced hitting a 'hanging/folding' step on our previous RV rig, causing further damage to the TT shell itself. The portable step also becomes an easily relocated item for access to other elevated portion of your TT, perhaps for cleaning windows ?

I have this one: Step Stool/Working Platform Bought on sale for $19.99. I cut the legs down and re-riveted the rubber feet back on. Works good and the price was right. Of course it is no problem to rework one of these, because everybody who owns an FGRV has a rivet tool and rivets right?

No. I replace failing rivets with stainless steel bolt and nut.

Edit: new bolt and I reuse the same acorn nut.

Agree with other posts: factory steps too close to trailer body and apt to hitting stumps/rocks etc. while moving. We use a heavy plastic 'milk crate' open side down. When packing up to move crate goes in trailer open side up and is filled with wheel chocks, stabilizer feet, and tongue jack block; all the stuff that comes out first when setting up.

Steps

Nancy

I took pictures of my factory installed steps on a 16 std.

There are additional tubes mounted to the frame to allow installation. If your trailer does not have them you will need a welder.

I added the numbers 1 thru 4 to identify them for you.
The last picture shows one of the welds that attaches the step frame to the added tubes.
The tube I marked #2 may be part of the step frame you have.

Good luck

Kenny

I had Larry at Little House Customs put on steps for me and have been very happy with them for several years now. Much easier to get in and out of the trailer and no hassles with moving stools around -making sure they are level etc.
