1978 Burro door fit

Hi, I'm new to the site. I bought my Burro this summer and am in the process of getting it ready for use. I have repaired and replaced some of its parts but my biggest problem is the fit of the door. I pulled the door seal off of the trailer and am now trying to get the door shape to match the lip that is built into the trailer. The middle of the door touches the frame. The top of the door is about a half of an inch from the frame and the bottom is about 1.5" from it.

I have cut the bottom of the door in half about a foot up and removed the wood and fiberglass to allow for the door to bend. I have also cut the top in half a couple of inches down to help shape that too.

Is there anyone out there that has come upon this problem with these fiberglass trailers? Thanks!

I did a pretty major door job a couple of years ago with lots of help from a friend. It is a huge job! I had to remove the door, reinforce the hinges and do some shape alterations. I never did get a complete match, but it is acceptably close. I never did figure out why it distorted and was not as brave as you - I didn't cut the door to adjust the curve. You rock!!

78 Burro

Thanks for getting back to me. I bought this trailer a couple of months ago and have been dragging my feet trying to figure out how to keep the rain out of the door opening. I just replaced a section of the floor by the door because it was all rotted due to the leakage.

Same was true with mine. Water still comes down inside top to bottom sometimes in heavy rain. I shortened the wood lip in the entry a bit when I replaced it and fiber wrapped it. Now it just runs to the ground. Not an ideal solution of course. I'll be watching to see how you solve the problem. I did put a metal strip above the door to deflect the water around the door and that helped a lot.
