We failed to plan..........

On our first Mini-trip with our Burro we failed to allow time for:

The people at the gas station; the people where we stopped for lunch; the people at the campground; the people at the stop light.........the people going down the highway.........the guy with the 35 foot fifth wheel with Burro envy!

If you are recluse looking to get away from it all: or a bank robber looking for an inconspicuous mobile hideout.....a 13 foot egg camper is not a good choice.

I was warned in an earlier post, but had no idea.........

Ed in Northern Mi.
83 Burro 13 foot.

If you charge for pictures and conversations about your egg... you could pay for your trip

You should have listened. You were warned before hand. LOL...... Most of the time it's fun to meet the lookie lou's, but on occasion you want to hide. Pulling, sitting near any egg is like setting under a microscope.

83 Burro 13 foot.
A few years ago I was traveling in South Arizona VERY close to the border and came upon a Border Patrol road block. The 3 vehicles ahead of me went through with just being slowed, not stopped, by the officers.....when they came to me they pulled me off the road, I thought, what the he_ _....they just wanted to talk about the 16 foot Casita I was pulling.

We haven't had it happen much with our Uhaul, but with our '46 teardrop it happens all the time, gas stops, rest areas, campgrounds, someone wants to look or ask questions. We really don't mind, you just need to have that attitude about it. We take the teardrop to car shows & cruise-ins with our '76 pickup and have a steady stream of lookers. Meet a lot of nice people and even had some vintage camping equipment given to us. A couple times camping we had to toss out overcooked food because of giving "The Tour", but just laugh it off. For us it's the way camping should be! If we don't want to be bothered we can use our old starcraft popup. Mary & Bob

We stayed in a nice campground in Washington this last trip and had lots of people walk by and wave during the day. As it got late, one neigbor came over and asked for a look inside. I opened the door and as I turned around I was surprised that there were now 8 people behind me wanting to see inside. Everyone said they were waiting for someone else to break the ice.

If you want to meet people, camp in a 13footer!! There's just something so approachable about a little egg! They're so unique that people just have to stop and poke their heads inside

Ypo don't have to be camping.

In Machais, ME we had visitors before we went into the grocery store and another couple waiting after we came out.

A similar event occurred in Sussex, NB at a Kents Store.

The reality is that there are limited opportunities for non-RVers to see fiberglass campers.

Some even knock at the door at home.
We've learned to accept it as a fun way to meet new friends.

Exactly!

Yep, you don't have to be in a 13 ft'er, nor camping. Most of my encounters have been in gas stations, rest stops, ect. Even had them follow/stalk me at midnight for miles on a highway in WY. Then when I pulled off at a rest stop they followed me in. Frankly I would have been a little scared, but I was following another forum member so I felt safety in numbers. They turned out to be a nice young couple. Who were thrilled that I let them take a look.

MaryandBob, I can't imagine hoards of people not wanting to look inside your U-haul. I would even chase you down for a peek!

Then you have people like me, an owner of a 13 footer, who waves franticly, stops, makes u-turns etc. just to go meet the other fiberglass people, even without my trailer in tow.

Our 13' Burro had the same treatment all the time. Our 16' UHaul doesn't draw quite the same lookers, but everyone wants to know if it' really a UHaul and where they rent them. We've had numerous times where setup took twice as long as planned because people are stopping by. Not a problem! We enjoy telling the UHaul story, especially since there are so few of the VTs left. One interesting thing we've found... If you are camped in a place with lots of BIG rigs, they don't stop over or ask anything. It seems to be the smaller rig owners that are interested.

We also find ourselves waving like idiots at other drivers pulling fiberglass trailers, even when we don't have ours hooked up. Of course, they don't know what the heck we're doing!

We had more people ask to look inside the 13'Burro than we have the 16' Casita.
It was fun to watch the people's expression when they saw all of the custom woodwork inside the Burro.

Came out of Costco recently to see a fire truck and a bunch of firemen standing around my trailer. I started running over thinking something had happened while I was shopping .... nope the boys were just waiting for me to come out so they could ask questions and see inside! :-)

I've been doing the same thing! If they are not parked, I drive along side the TV and give the driver a "thumbs up"!

These poor people probably think that I'm nuts (at least my husband does)! But all I want to do is signal them that I'm a fellow fiberglasser.

On any given weekend when camping we usually give at least 1 tour , sometimes more. Most are surprised that it has bunks, stove furnace , sink etc.

Hey, that's what we need - a secret fiberglass hand sign. Thumbs up does not work for us. We get that from the skateboarders when we drive our VWs.
