Bigfoot B17 Wiring

I found a cut wire in the Power Converter on the 12 Volt side. It was the original white common lead. Fixed it and all works now.

Trailer is wired for an extra battery [on the tongue, front of propane tanks]. It also has a water pump, break away brake connector as well as the usual LT, RT, Running lights.

The 7-pin plug on the trailer is wired as follows:
1 - white - ground
2 - blue - right turn
3 - green
4 - black
5 - red - left turn
6 - brown - running lights ???
7 - yellow

Yellow is for backup lights. I believe the black is power to the battery. Blue is for your brakes. If you found blue elsewhere, trace it back. It’s likely a piece of wire jumped into the correct color wire. Do you have to do a complete rewire?

I have a 91 and all I did was plug it into my 99 Z71 and everything seems to work,, except the battery charging so I'm looking on this forum for possible answers.
But I'll agree that there is no such thing as wiring diagrams for any of the older models. I thing this is possibly true of most trailers. The wiring is pretty simple in one reguard but the charging system is not so simple...

Hiya, if your trailer is anything like ours, the electrical panel is an older one and only provides for the 12v system. In ours, the battery charging wasn't connect from the tow vehicle, it was attached to a battery charger that was plugged into a 120 outlet under the drivers front bench seat of the dinette.

I have no way to verify this, but I've been told when the bank shut them down in 2008(?) all documentation was burned/destroyed. That seems bizarre to me, but I guess it might as well be true since nothing useful seems to be available. And many owners have tried.

I'd be overjoyed to be proven wrong on all this.

Did you check the 30amp fuse under the drivers side front bench seat? It should be a glass fuse on older trailers. it is in the front inside corner and goes between the converter and the battery.

There are two different color schemes for 7 way Bargman plugs and harnesses.



One is very common, the other not so much but could be encountered. If the trailer plug and umbilical is wired to the trailer correctly it will work fine when plugged into the vehicle, no matter the color scheme.
