Scamp 13 - sink to cabinet metal bars

Our 13' Scamp has twisted metal strips that extend from the sink area to the overhead cabinets. Are they structural? I'd like to replace them with a Plexiglass panel to stop the splashing from the sink.

They should be structural and are supposed to be. My 1986 16' Scamp had them and the mounting holes were hammered out and the bars were bowed and useless for supporting the top.
You could install a bar between the cabinets and overhead and attach the plexiglass to that.

You could also use .50" .75" thick acrylic which may be strong enough.

We're reno'ing a '79 Scamp - glad i read this, i hate those two twisty bars. Will consider installing something more aesthetically pleasing.
