Painting the interior of a 1979 Trillium

Hi, Linda here. My husband and I just purchased a 1979 Trillium. We would like to paint both the ensolite(?) and all cabinet doors. Any suggestions? Also, some of the plastic tape covering interior seams is cracked. What do I purchase and where to replace it. Thank you

I posted a thread on painting my cabinet doors, IMHO they turned out great. If you click on the manufacturers tab it should be easy to find. I’ve also posted it on my Bills 1977 Trillium FB Page.

Interior work - Trilliums

Last summer we fixed up much of the interior or our 1978 Trillium 4500.

Most of the T-moldings were wrinkled & damaged, and although it was recommended to heat them up to straighten, we found that this fix did NOT last very long. We ended up removing all of the T-molding and filling with acrylic sealant, as recommended by others elsewhere in this forum. The edges have been covered with vinyl tape, although I have not been real happy with this fix either.

Once the filler had dried, we primed with Kilz 1-2-3 primer and painted with interior grade paint. It looks way better than having the T-molding now.

We pulled the heater out of our trailer as soon as we bought it, so we had to make a door to replace it on the inside. Because of that we are in the midst of making new doors for all of the cupboards. These are being made of pine and Masonite, and are being painted to go with the new upholstery that we are putting in. Because of the low quality PVC surface on the old doors, I would NOT reuse or try to paint these, although I have read that many have done so, again using Kilz (or similar) primer and interior paint.

These are fun projects - I am looking forward to getting our trailer out of winter storage so that I can get back to working on it!

B.I.N. branded shellac based primer over the crappy vinyl on the doors (not Kilz, it was not recommended), topped off with two coats of cabinet door paint from Lowes.

"Red Cent" color, looks orange to me which was my plan. Coordinates with the original upholstery. New door made out of birch plywood on the gaucho bench and where the furnace had been located.

Painted the masonite front panel on the refrigerator to match.

Curt: when you say "inside paint," do you mean acrylic? Enamel paints (oil-based) can fume off for up to six months...but that's just a winter's rest for our eggs, and might never trouble you at all.

I have used ordinary, but good quality, interior primer and paint for the “tape” and walls. Not oil, due to the smell. It was Benjamin Moore in a eggshell finish, very low sheen, but enough to make it easily washable and not dry looking. Never painted the doors though.

Thanks!

I need to take a picture of it not in my carport, with the bucket and garbage can in the background. Ouch!

I didn't notice until you mentioned it but now I see what you mean. You could just close the trailer door...
