Done! Maxxfan Installed in Eggcamper

Hello,
Today, we replaced the factory-installed "fan" placed in the middle of the roof where the belly band is located on our 2011 Eggcamper. We bought a 5100k Maxx Fan because we liked the feature of being able to leave it open in the rain.
Our main worry was whether or not it would close completely over the belly band (necessary when we use AC).

Since a few members on the forum expressed interest in the installation of the Maxx Fan, I took photos

looks like it is high enough where it misses the rib?

Jim,
Amazingly it missed the rib (= belly band? Am I calling it the wrong thing?)
Sure do wish we had known that as we were worried and planning to cut away some of the rib to make way for the fan. Of course, we weren't sure until we actually got it in and tried closing it. Yeah! 😃

OK, giving up on pics....just letting anyone who is interested in this know that it is possible, and it took about 3 hours.

Trying to put together a tutorial:

At the bottom of your message box you will see Post Quick Reply and Go Advanced.
Click on Go Advanced.
At the top of the message box are icons. Click on the paper clip.
That brings up a box to post up to four photos.
Click on Browse and find the pictures. I find it easiest to place them on my desktop so I can easily locate them.
Click on Upload and wait for the message telling you to wait to disappear. Then click Preview Message to make sure you did what you wanted to do. Then click Submit.

Glenn, that is what I have been doing, only I have been clicking on Post Reply rather than the Quick Reply...Go Advanced option. So, I just tried that, and still it only posts the last of the four pics. Do you think it's because I'm using an iPad instead of computer??

I have no experience with iPad. I'm using a MacBook Air.
Can't help.

Letitia, Then how about just one photo per post? Four posts and you're done! I'm so glad it all worked out for you. I would really like to see all of your photos because since it worked so well for you, we'll likely try it, too. I'm pretty sure Jim at EggCamper follows this chat room, and his engineer who said it can't be done without modifications needs to know that it can. Great job! Dale

Oh course, the hardest part was removing the existing fan, which had a bead of silicon and butyl tape (putty). Carefully used a sharpened putty knife (used a grinder to get it razor sharp). The putty knife was gently tapped with a rubber mallet to break the bond. There was no damage whatsoever to the fiberglass or the gel coat.

Next the old butyl tape and sealant was removed from the roof, carefully using a regular putty knife, again no damage to the roof. Sat right on top of the camper to do this.

A strip of butyl tape was applied to the flange, and the Dicor sealant was applied around the fan.

You can see there is a good amount of sealant, and also note where the rib/belly band is located (mildew, magic eraser later!) in relation to the space.

Of course we disconnected the battery before we began....so, once the wires were reconnected, we connected the battery and turned it on to see if it worked. The inside trim piece needed to be measured and a hack saw was used to cut the piece to the proper length.
Then we screwed everything in place.
