Oliver Lee SP near Alamogordo.

Took our Casita camper to Oliver Lee State Park just south of Alamogordo New Mexico for the weekend. Park is in a great location to use as a base camp for road trips in the area. I consider anything within a few hrs drive as fair game for a road trip. We visited Rockhound State Park, Cloudcroft, Sunspot, Bluff Springs, White Sands and a few other locals. Had a few meals in Alamogordo, visited the Space Museum there too.

All in all a really nice 4 day weekend. About 5 hrs drive from home. Took the scenic route (of the Mountains in CLoudcroft) and stayed off the interstates. Averaged about 23mpg for the trip. Fuel is still far and away our biggest expense for weekend trips. Diesel gets great mileage but at some stations it was running 20% over regular unleaded. Cost of Diesel just balances out the gains in mileage.

Went out to White Sands National Monument Thursday evening and got treated to a fine sunset. This is a 2 shot pano stitched in PS Elements 11.

We've been to Oliver Lee CG - we thought it was a very nice cg and, like you, convenient to lots of interesting things. Nearby Three Rivers Petroglyphs BLM CG is also a good stop...you can go just to take the walk and see all the petroglyphs which are quite impressive.

Three river also has several RV sites there. Nice to stay there and take your timewalking the place. I've spent a hundred hrs in there and not seen half of it yet. Plan to take tha Casita there for a few days this winter.
