Chevy gets 30MPG towing a Casita 17'

Cruising another RV forum I came across a combo that may interest the fuel miser types. Apparently this rig gets 30MPG towing a 17' Casita which is really good.

See Post# 13...... Best TV for MPG with 20 footer Airstream ? - Airstream Forums

In another statement on the thread it compares the 4cyl VW TDI as having more power than an 80's GM 6.2 V8 Diesel. Technology is advancing.

Sounds like someone is smoking something
The 2000 lb Chevy Metro factory MPG's are 36/42, but the poster is claiming 55 mpg not towing a 3200 lb trailer with a 2000 lb, 1.3 l. super-economy car.
Even the posts that follow don't believe that claim.
I really hope that this is not/was not a serious post.

Added: It wasn't, the post was retracted as a joke two posts later.

With a smile on my face, we once exceeded 30 mpg towing our Scamp 16 with our Honda CRV over a distance of 112 miles.

We were returning from Crater Lake (elevation 7500 ft.) to Sutherlin, Oregon (elevation 520 ft). Definitely a lot of 'down hill' rolling involved in this run.

Had a 87 Chevy Sprint 3 cylinder that got 55 MPG. You could not tow anything with that car.

i also had an '87 ford escape wagon that got 47 mpg.
but it had 1 stuck piston so it was basically a 3 cylinder.
still amazed that it actually ran.
so, miracles still happen.

There's only one thing men lie about more than fuel economy. Eventually though, that too is reveled to their chagrin.

That Metro had 80 HP.

You don't need that much power when you have such a light car and trailer.

I sold that Sprint to a fellow that I worked with and would go out and put gass in it for a couple of days and he came into my office and said I must have been driving it wrong because he was getting 129 miles per gallon.

Casita 13.... but that would be incredibly unlikely to get that kind of mileage.... there is still wind resistance.... and a car that might way about the same as the trailer...I wouldn't do it

In many, many real world long term tests and aggressive maneuvers cars and trailers of the same weight or even trailers heavier than the cars have proven to be safe, reliable, and comfortable to drive*.

*generally speaking
*assuming an optimal connection and set up.

PS, not sure about a Metro towing a Casita, never tried it myself and personally have no interest in that particular, low performance rig.

Ya, but in the real world of intelligent FGRV Owners, as is division by zero, towing over the manufacturers weight limit is "Not Defined".

Even the person who posted that pic on Airforums acknowledged that it was only a (sick) joke. This entire thread belongs in the Jokes and Tall Tales section, not here.

BTW: The link that was posted, to towing Airstreams, was not appropriate.

Hey there BOB. You seem to have your undies in a knot again. Where is that friendly disposition that most of us have on this forum??
Do you not have an interest in talking about fuel efficient tow vehicles or are you satisfied with the 12 MPG you are getting with your rig??

I'd always be happy to talk about fuel efficient vehicles with manufacturers towing specifications suitable for towing FGRV's That link/post wasn't, nor was it truthful.

And 12mpg? You must have me confused with someone in your Airstream group.
