Parkliner Awning-on a lighter note
Well, I finally got around to putting an awning on the Parkliner. This is a Dining Canopy for Gander Mt. , and its around 11 1/2' square. It comes with 4 metal leg sections and two fiberglass pole sections for the canopy, that goes corner to corner. I have the one end tied to the bumper and the other to the tongue. It fits nicely in the anti-trolley roof, so now rain should come down the side of the camper. I was going to make something out of a tarp, and when talking with Eddie Longest he gave me the idea of using the dining canopy from GM. It comes in a small compact case, so easy to stow away in trailer or my truck. Got it on sale a month or more ago for 45.00 down from 69.00, so pretty good deal. Only time will tell how it acts to some wind, and I'm sure the next time we set up it will go easier too. Since I took this pic, I added two bungee cords on the trailer and I tied a loop in each line that goes to the canopy on the trailer. So all I have to do is go around the tongue/bumper and hook into the loop, set up the two legs and done after of coarse with putting the two poles in the canopy. I just thought someone would like to see another way to skin a cat, thanks to Eddie.

Interesting... rain should run off of it...I have to tip my poles a little bit.
Good Luck with it.

Looks good.
You could pass it off as a factory job.

Nice Job Tim,
I should have jumped all over it when it was on sale, but $69 is still a great price.

Looks great! Tim, how long do you think it takes you to put it up? Does it require more than one person to deploy?

Donna, It took a little while as one of the fiberglass sections that have the shock cords came out and it was glued in the bottom one. So I had to drill out the glue and restring it up. I will have to try and set it up sometime alone, to see if it can be done. I'm thinking that it can but of coarse it would be better with two. When we go camping next month maybe I can do a time thing by my self to see just how long it does take. And yes Brian it still good at regular price. I'll keep ya posted on how it works out.

That would be great if you can post the info. There are lots of members who travel single and need/want awnings. But if it's truly a two person job....

Great looking awning Tim! Perhaps I'll see it in person next February in FL.

Thanks everyone but really the credit goes to Eddie. And Ron we will look forward to seeing you guys again in Feb. This doesn't beat the awning you have and I do wish they were easier to get. And I like Deryk's awning colors better to, but I'm hoping this will work out.

Very nice setup, I even like the color. Was just in GM Saturday night, for some reason I didn't look at the canopy section. I have several large tent rainflys (rainflies?) that I got in the clearance bin at Eureka!, with cross-poles they would look very similar to this. Will have to dig them out and play a bit.
One thing I've been considering is that the edges of the material should be cut in a catenary curve like this one. Keeps tension on the edge and prevents a lot of flapping in the wind.

That's a nice setup. Looks like it gives a large shade area!
Nice to see a "no new holes" option for an awning. I am partial to vintage style awning but this solution is so much less expensive and does the job!

mine is on the way also...
we will have to watch it closely as our favorite areas are at river's edge in narrow mountain cuts...quite windy nearly every afternoon. But if we can use it to keep the inch worms (we're usually under trees) off the Rocket Stove when preparing a meal...priceless!
Cheers,
thom
