Cool Campster Propane Tank Attach

I tried searching for photos, but cant see much detail.

I want to attach my propane tank to the front of my 1971 campster. I have found double tank holders, but am curious how those of you out there do it with one tank.

Is there a bolt down option that doesnt involve welding.

The tank on my scamp is handled differently, so those of you with trilliums, campsters, hunters or anybody else non scamp, what have you got.

Feel free to post pictures of links to suppilers if you know them.

That would be very very helpful.

Thanks!!!!

Yes, the tank fits right on the tongue, and then you put bolts through it sideways (not through the tank; through the base) to lock it down. I'll try to go get a picture. I think I did have my welder add an extra support but it was basically already there.

Before that (which I just did) I put the spare tire on the tongue, put the tank into it, and tied it all down with load straps. It worked for years.

Above is the tank, secured by a bolt or two.

Thaks for the pix. I love the tire holder he welded on.

I guess I still cant get a clear idea of how that bolt goes in, am I looking at the bottom of the tank??

Thanks again. . jimbo

Yes. Your frame may be different, but mine has two L-shaped bars with the vertical part up and the horizontal part providing a seat for the tank. The bars each have a hole for the bolt, which goes through the bottom of the tank as well. Let me upload another picture that might be clearer.

My welder added the two cross pieces that run front to back, but in fact the tank was pretty stable without them- just more stable with them. Otherwise it would need something holding it down from the top, too. I added the drop of paint for dramatic effect!

That makes sense.

I have the L shaped bars, and I can "balance: my tank on them.

I am going to go home and try this. (and do some photoshop work)

Ill be damned, there are holes in the bottom of the propane tank. Thanks Bobbie. Do you use anything on the top to secure that too, or just strap it to the spare tire holder. What did you use before you added the extra braces at the bottom?
