Cleaning walls and sealing seams in 1978 Scamp

Hi, we bought a new Scamp last year but our kids and grandkids like to join us. This week I found a 1978 Scamp and bought it so we can do some family camping. The elephant skin has some mold and needs the seams filled. Any advice on how to go about this would be appreciated.

Tilex for cleaning and then use latex caulking to fill in the seams (don't use silicone), and then you can paint over everything for a unified look.

You can match the texture of the original walls by using a damp rag or sponge to dab at the latex calking prior to it drying.

Just went through this process myself.


-Bleach and water to kill the mold.
-Follow it up with ammonia and water to clean the skin very well.
-Rinse with clear water.
-Let Dry
-Caulk seems with latex caulk and texturize with damp rag.
-Apply new tape and start painting.

By "seams" you mean the belly band I hope. Windows, roof vents and other openings in the hull should be removed, old sealant cleaned off and everything reinstalled with RV type butyl putty tape.


As mentioned, never use silicone caulk, it will peel off and you will have leaks. Can't say I have ever heard of latex caulk being used on anything but the belly band either.
