Update:
Axle installed today. Fit like a glove, only slight grinding on the rear slots with a Dremel tool to make clearance for the bolts ( 5/8") to fit.14 Tires fit just fine, I am very happy.
Clearance from frame bottom to ground is 16 1/2 inches. Sweet.

One more update ( I gotta stop)
Since it now rides high and looks pretty, I replaced the Atkins drop down stabilizers in the rear. Now it's really pretty.

Looks like the wheel's centered fore and aft under load and scads of vertical clearance. The trailer looks to be in very good condition.

Beautiful!
Too often axle swaps look strange, especially when they raise the trailer. Not so with yours- it looks as if that's what was intended by the original designer.

I agree with Francesca. Prolly looks good because 16-1/2" is not a radical increase from the original 14" ground to frame dimension. Ground clearance isn't going to affect center of gravity all that much and load rating of axle is a better match for the curb wgt. of the trailer. Brand new suspension. Maybe larger rims and tire with a higher load rating than the original 13s? Total uplift!

Yes 14 inch wheels and tires. I took the measurements and compared them with the Dexter #10 axle and it was very ,very close to the original. I did have some apprehension and had a plan B worked out , but didn't need it. The original bolt holes were 1/2 inch so I had to enlarge them to 5/8 inch. I did use the original mounts so it was essentially a plug in. I had to grind about 1/16 inch off the rear slots of the axle mount to fit the bolts. All in all I would recommend this axle for any 86' Burro 17'.
I could supply the measurements if there is a way to post them to the document center.

Final,Final update. Finally got to go caming, went up to Breaks Interstate Park in VA. New axle loved the trip, didn't mind the twisty mountain roads at all. Towed like a dream. I will try the weight distribution hitch I have but don't think it will make the trailer any better ,just the front wheel traction.

Axle swap info is interesting to me, particularly an off the shelf swap. Lot of folks wish they had your lucky charm.

Set up the wieght distrbuting hitch.
As I thought, gives better traction on gravel and wet grass and probably on the road too. New axle a dream to tow, I even find myself going over 70 at times. But I try to stay 65. The brakes will stop the car by themselves, so nice to have brakes again. Had two panic stops since the upgrade and am so happy to have brakes.

Latest update
Last summer we went out to Vegas and back via Texas. 3 weeks of completely uneventful trailoring. Axle = all was fine, tires = all was fine.
Fantastic trip all around, Saw Vegas, and surrounding state and National parks, Texas Palo Duro Canyon 22 miles south of Amirillo. This place is a secret little Grand Canyon. San Antonio and Both Bush museums. Hot springs bath and Shiloh Battle field.
Great time

Axle
Jerry,
I am away from home right now so I can't look it up. But if you call them ( I used the Ga. office) they are very helpful. The info you have will get you to the right axle.

Thanks Pete, I will check with Dexter about the #10 like you used, there is a dealer here in Kansas City, A&A wheel, I ordered an axle for my 2009 16' scamp through them, I will be selling the scamp now that I have the burro, much roomier and has much larger bed, thanks alot , Jerry

axle
If you remember I said I had to grind one hole on each side with a dremel tool for the bolt to slide in. About 1/4 inch or less I believe. The other bolts lined right up.
You will love that new axle.

Pete, did you order your axle directly from Dexter and shipped to you? Or did you need to go through a dealer?

Hi, I ordered through a dealer here in KCMO AA wheel , it would have been more through Dexter after adding in shipping, AA wheel did free shipping but I had to wait till they got their monthly shipment from Dexter which was about 3 weeks total cost with hubs and brakes about $430

I couldn't find a dealer around me, but my daughter lives in Altanta so I combined the trip and picked it up at Dexter about 30 miles away. The Dexter folks were very helpful when I ordered over the phone.
