Complete re wiring of 78 surfside: Electrical question...

Hello,

Been looking for a while in the forums for any link on proper gauge wire to use for my 78 surfside complete renovation.

Anyone have any suggestions on what gauge or product I should order? I will be running a 12V system to everything and would like to know what's up to code, etc? As well as AC, but that's easy!

Thanks very much!
Chuck

When I did mine I used nothing smaller than 12 Gauge THHN Stranded wire primarily used in conduit and cable trays. It has a covering that is very tough. I also put it in a plastic loom for added protection.

Shop THHN Wire (By-the-Roll) at Lowes.com!

I use 10 gauge, but that is because I got a bunch for free. If I had to pay for it I would also use 12 gauge. Just remember to fuse it for 20A.

I used 12-2 w/ground "romex" for my new 120V wiring in my Scamp as I already had it on hand. I could have just as well used 14-2 w/grd as I will be using 15 amp breakers and the loads are low. For my new and replacement 12V wiring I am using this: Amazon.com: Cable Matters 2-Conductor In-Wall Rated (CM) 12 AWG Speaker Cable, 100% Bare Copper 100 Feet: Electronics which is a 12 gauge "wall rated" speaker wire. It is probably over-kill also but I usually try and go "one bump" up with my stuff if it does not cost too much more.
