Steps, Storage and Seating - Scamp 19'

We purchased our Standard 2008 19' Scamp in October, 2014, used. We promptly discovered that getting into bed was problematic and that storage was badly needed. After surveying the various modifications by others, my husband wandered through stores looking for some sort of storage units. He found plastic drawers that stack at Bed, Bath and Beyond. And I suggested that a ladder similar to the one in the vee berth of the boat would work nicely. And he was off!

Looks great and functional. I did the same with a past 5er of mine. I found a grab handle mounted by the bath door on the fiberglass strip was real helpful. Also after getting a couple of yards of ratfur from Scamp and covering exposed wood was easy and made it look like a factory mod. A lot easier than staining or painting.

I didn't post a picture showing a handle on the vertical wall. It makes getting up and in much easier. Monkey fur and paint are the next steps. First we are going camping over the new year!

The stairs are held by a set of marine take-apart hinges by Seadog, used for a door that needs to lifted off. The stairs just lift up and off so they can be up on the bed during the day. There are two wood panels that slip in so the drawers don't open during transit.
As to the monkey fur, that is what the local mariners call the fuzzy wall covering.
