Pop Riveting 77' Boler 17 footer/ Spring Loaded Catch Rock Guard

Refurbishing "Bernice"- never pop-riveted before. Able to remove rivets, but can't seem to re-rivet. The throw on the riveter isn't enough to catch the rivet and pull it back to outside from inside. I am re-riveting an L bracket to wall inside. Advice?

Also looking for replacement spring loaded catch for rock guard on front window and can't see to find one - I know the catch is the same on older Bigfoots

It takes multiple strokes of the Pop Rivet tool to set the rivet, also make sure you have the correct size tip in the tool for the diameter of the rivet.
