Metal Boler Emblems - Reproduction Cast of ...

I am starting this thread to document this project and partly to gauge interest in them. Seems people mention having them re-produced but does not seem its actually been done....

My 1970 Boler did not come with the metal BOLER emblems and I recently obtained a set. The original metal emblems are pot metal and were then chromed.

The set I have are badly pitted so I sought out to have them re-produced at an aluminum foundry. I wanted cast aluminum ones as they can be polished and will never rust or pit out.

I have been in touch with over a dozen foundries now and seems very few want to touch them. Everything from NO to quotes of over $200 per emblem. I found one company out of Ontario that is on board and am sending him my emblem this week in the hopes it may be used as a mold.

The only cost effective alloy is a ZA12 alloy which is a modern variation of pot metal with a small percentage (12%) of aluminum. It should polish up nicely but may tarnish fairly quickly, but clearcoating would solve this.

I am also considering the option of a high luster faux chrome powder coat or possibly even ceramachrome as a final finish....paint is of course the least expensive option....regular chroming is far too expensive.

I am paying for a run of 10 emblems and will see how they turn out before I offer any sort of official run of these. I figure I can always sell off the extras on Ebay or elsewhere to cover my cost. My main goal is to have a nice set for my own trailer with a back up set.

Photos below is the one I intend to use as a mold. Its rough but cleaned up what I could...

Hi Kurt,

Let us know when you have final pricing for 2 of these. We would like to have 2 for our 17' 1980 Boler.

Thank you.

Will do, its ultimately gonna come down to how they are finished. I suspect the casting, overhead and shipping back to me may bring these up to around 30 a piece....I will know more once he has a look at the 'sample' first had. I am sending it to him tomorrow so I should know more later this week.

Sorry to confuse. I read d-m-y and not m-d-y as I would normally see.

Hi Kurt, you can count us as interested too -- though the final price will be a determining factor. Eager to see the results you get either way.

I'd be interested in 1 or 2 of these depending on the price as well. My Boler came without the emblem. I thought about doing something like this as well, but didn't have a template to work with.

Kurt when you get these done and if you have any to sell I can put a note up on the Nor-West Glass Egg Facebook site for you. I suspect there are more than a few people here in BC that would be intreasted in these!!

I'm wanting to add helpful info on the Facebooki site for those in BC looking to do updates/repairs.

I have actually had for more interested than anticipated. They will go and quickly I suspect as I only ordered a run of 10. I am waiting to get my hands on them and if they are as good as I suspect I will order another run of 10. I am not looking to make $$ on these, just looking to cover what I have invested in a run.

Based on the replies I will contact them and have them hang on to the mold....and aim for another set in December.
