SOLD: Any idea on value of rare Play-Pac Hitch Hut?

Does anyone know of how we should go about finding out the value of our camper. We have finally decided to part ways and will be looking to sell this rare piece. I believe according to this forum and the original designer of it, this may be 1 of only 10 remaining. Maybe we should put it in a museum but then someone wouldn't be able to enjoy it at the campgrounds!

Might be the most original and finest conditioned Play-Pac Hitch Hut in the country! It has spent its whole life inside since 1981 and was taken out twice in 2009 and been stored since then again. Everything is original and in working condition except for reupholstered cushions and new window treatments. New tires were purchased in 2009 also. Has air conditioning!

Any help or opinion would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Did you search our "for sale" archive? There might be some old ads in there, with prices and descriptions of condition, etc.

Price and value are subjective. And as much as you value the trailer and as few as were made, it really doesn't have all that much more "value" to someone that will use it as a travel trailer. It's not a Model T nor an Airstream. Our fiberglass trailers have reached the cult stage, but not the museum value stage.

The only trailer I can remember that sold for more than twice it's original purchase price was Moguland. Not because it was in rare original shape, but because it was highly modified using quality materials and professional modifying techniques.

Photos of unit!

I understand there is no sentimental value in it, because then people tend to ask for too much money. The only thing I was really getting at is that the unit was purchased for around $1000 new, but I've seen a lot of other Play-Pacs in the For Sale forum in much worse condition that need to be refurbed before you could even camp in it, asking for a few thousand dollars! I've not seen any that have sold for those amounts, so I figured everybody on here has a little more knowledge regarding these type of campers. Sorry I didn't have any interior photos to post, but I will go take some and get them posted soon.

Thanks, Kurt

Nice, if I still lived in Indiana I would get real serious about that trailer.Even now if you decide what to sell it for PM me, I may need to visit someone in Indiana.

I sold it a couple of years ago. I have two other campers at this time but still want a little fiberglass. I would consider another Playpac if it had the bathroom.

The model I have is the model 101! The equipment it has:
- two burner range
- chrome range cover
- 15 amp electric power

- 20lb steel gas bottle (it was removed when I took the unit camping in 2009, still have at home)
- 4-ply white wall tires (these originals were replaced in 2009)
- factory chrome wheel discs in brand new condition (visible in photos above)
- vanity mirror
- bottom opening screened tinted plexiglass windows (visible in photos above)
- dining area roof vent (visible in photos above)
- sandwiched fiberglass construction
- private toilet bathroom with porta-potti (no shower in this one; I believe the 201 model had the shower)
- sleeps 4 on the 4" polyfoam cushions (re-upholstered to a very neutral beige cloth fabric in 2009 using the original cushions which are in great shape)
- stainless steel sink
- 12 gal fresh water tank
- 5 gal grey water tank for sink
- rear fold/extend stabilizing jacks (visible in photos above)
- original 25' power cord for shore power

SPECS: 1130lbs dry weight; 2000lb axle rating; 2113lb GVWR; 13'9" length; 7'0" width; 7'0" height; 6.50x13 tires; torsion bar suspension

But is it for sale? Or were you just trying to get an idea of it's value?

Hi everyone!

It will be for sale, but probably not yet at this moment due to the weather here in Indiana. I was hoping to get it out and get it ready for sale here in March/April timeframe so it will be ready for someone to acquire and use this coming camping season if they so desire.

My parents have a building that it is stored in and there are some other things being stored in the way of getting it out, so we would have to move some items first. Since the ground is so soft and weather is going back and forth between snow and ice and rain right now, I have no desire to get it out and expose it to those elements!

My main goal is to show it on the site to get some expert opinions on fair market price for this type of trailer and see if anyone on the forums might be interested in it. I will offer it for sale on here first, so keep tuned! If there is no interest on the forums, I probably will post it on ebay and advertise locally.

I just got back from taking some interior photos and will post them here in a few minutes.

IF ANYONE IS INTERESTED IN MAKING US A FAIR OFFER AND WOULD LIKE IT TO BE PRIVATE, FEEL FREE TO DO SO VIA A PRIVATE MESSAGE IN THE FORUMS OR BY EMAIL. MY EMAIL IS kurtnval@insightbb.com.

Thanks!!

Just found some info that might be pertinent to this model:

This is a one-owner. Trailer was purchased on 2/21/75.

I have two conflicting numbers maybe someone could help me out with. On original purchase receipt, there is a serial number of SB010343 and model year shows 1973, which would make it a first year model I believe. On the registration papers, the Indiana BMV shows a Vehicle ID number of Z7522200002447Z and show it as a 1974 model. The ID sticker on the camper is worn off so I can't see the date of manufacturer which would answer my question.

Does anyone glean any info based on the numbers above as to what year it actually is? I'm guessing the serial number might be a dealer number since VIN numbers usually aren't that short.
