Wink My '76 Scamp rehab

I have been restoring this 1976 Scamp that I found in N Carolina- I hope I can get these pictures to post for you all.
The counter was ruined when we got it, due to a cooking fire, so I built the counter from salvaged wood.
We liked the connection to '76, so we have used the patriotic theme for the camper.
Hope to see you all at various rallys...

How did you hang the microwave? Is the weight of it affecting the cabinets?

Your Scamp really looks nice!

I have two questions:

One...how did you repair the door top hinge area? I have the same problem with patched metal plate repairs on my Scamp.

Two...I noticed that you cut out the wheel well. Did you run into any problems doing this?

Thanks,

Bill

Hi all- thanks for the nice feedback on my '76.
I took the camper to a body shop that also did fiberglass repair. The door sag turned out to be because the lower corner was pulling loose from the floor. They fabricated steel supports that were welded in to the frame, and curved up inside the body next to the door. The door hinges are now mounted on steel that is firm to the frame. I have some pictures if anybody else is trying to do this...
I hung the very small microwave from aluminum strips bolted to the upper cabinet- as others have done. No problems with it at all.
Bill, I used a trash can lid as a template and drew around the wheel. I cut that around with a jigsaw. No problems at all- you can see that there is plenty of room- and it's much easier to change tires. I thought it gave a sort of sports car look...

Thanks, everyone, for your interest. Happy camping. ThomKat

ThornKat, thank you very much for the details!

I believe the open wheel well makes your Scamp look so much better, and more modern!

I'm going to have to do that!

A couple more of my '76

We did away with the propane altogether- cook with a microwave and heat with an electric heater. All new windows and a Fantastic Fan. A friend made our curtains and cushions.

more '76

Here's the mend for the sagging door-
I have the battery and tools in the box in front, and a boat cover place made the wheel cover for us.

Very nice!! We are doing the same thing up front. Turning the bunks into a table area. We are putting a porta potty under one of the benches though.

Love the 76 theme!!

Thanks, Kim
The original lower bunk seats were too low to sit at a table- I had a fiberglass guy make them higher, at sitting level- lots more room for a porta potty- you could even have one in a drawer that pulls out...

Scamp door sag fix

Here are pictures of the support for my sagging Scamp door.
I had a body shop fabricate a piece that is welded to the frame and extends upward, inside the fiberglass body, so that the hinges are bolted into a steel rib that is braced to the frame. Additional bracing under the door step.

Mirowave for two

what brand of SMALL microwave did you find ?

I bought a 7 cu ft Magic Chef microwave from Home Depot. It was only about $69, and it's very light.
