The Newfang's Scamp 13' Renovations

I wanted to get all of our renovations into one thread. I'll add detail as I can, some are already documented in other threads

Tragically a chunk of our major renovation photos were lost, but I'm trying to recover what I can.

Our changes include (counting the ones this week):
Complete
  • Rewire with new inverter. (12v and 120v systems)
  • All LED exterior, running, and interior lights.
  • installed additional 12v and 120v outlets)
  • Replaced battery
  • Undercoating
  • Grey water tank addition
  • Installed fresh water tank (previous owner removed but did have it)
  • New faucet and hand pump
  • Replaced all plumbing
  • Replaced propane stovetop with 2 burner induction
  • Painted and added 2nd kitchen upright support
  • Painted all cabinet doors and changed knobs
  • Installed and secured microwave
  • Reworked A/C installation for better draining while fixing slanted bottom shelf in pantry (made level)
  • Rewired patio light to interior switch
  • Removed dinette hardware to use as permanent bed
  • Purchased custom mattress (Southern Mattress Company)
  • Installed and secured microwave (modified upper portion of pantry)
  • Modified front for 2 person dinette (also can be used as single person bed)
  • Added wood strip/cleat along former top bunk support under front window (to make convenient spot for sell phones and other small items
  • New tires and rims with moon hub caps
  • replaced door hinges and door seal
  • modify stone guard for hinged awning

(coming soon)
  • Upholstery for new front dinette cushions
  • Replace Curtains

Obviously some of these modifications were more challenging than others!

I just bought a sweet 13" that the previous owner had installed a 110 fridge. He also added a 100 watt solar panel. I would like to connect the fridge to the solar, right now you can only run it with shore power. Any suggestions as to the easiest way to do this? or perhaps the best way?

I'm not sure you're going to get much power off an inverter with a 100w solar system. Most mini fridges draw around 1 amp, which translates to 110 watts. But that's A/C. You'll lose power when you transform D.C. Into AC current.

It would be more efficient and more cost effective to replace the "dorm fridge" with a 12 volt danfoss compressor style refrigerator or an absorbtion (2way or 3 way) RV refrigerator.

I apologize too. Just getting the hang of these forums. I will start a new thread next time. Thanks for the replies! i have also been diving into past forums and come to the same conclusion as DaveB and Chrischampion.
That said, lovely renovation! That's quite a list, hope I can keep mine shorter!

Nice work. It's a real cutie.

I am very interested in the re-wiring & re-lamping part of your project. I am getting an '81 next week, and it needs upgrading too. Any photo's, suggestions, or recommendations would be appreciated.
