EggCamper Raises Price
I was shocked when I went to the EggCamper website and saw the price had jumped to $24,990 which is an increase of $5,000. I hope they continue to do well but a few may be put off a little by such an increase all of the sudden.

At least the Escape increase is lowered by the exchange rate variable.

I can tell you from a manufacturing perspective that allot of those increases are due to a lot of vendor increases our prices alone on our HeHr windows increased 100% from our original quote which is why it makes it very difficult to confirm pricing on our new trailers.

It was a modest increase for 2016 because Escape's margins have been reduced by the USD's valuation over the CAD. On the 19 for example, the increase was $800 CAD, or roughly $650 USD. The increase from the 2014 model to the 2015 model was actually higher, and that was due to the regular inflation of prices as well as new added standard features. IMHO, inflation cannot account for a $5000 increase on the EggCamper.
That's OK. It just makes an Escape a better value than it already was.

Jim Palmer at Eggcamper is probably at an age where he doesn't want to work overly hard, so reducing volume might be welcome to him. The other side of it is that he probably would welcome a buyer of the business, and raising profit margins could attract a buyer. Of course some costs are rising, but FG resin is petroleum based and we know what happened to oil prices this year, so that raw material should not have increased.

When we bought our EggCamper (in 2009), Jim said he closed down operations every winter and went to Arizona. He said that he built the EggCamper more as a retirement "hobby" than as a business. This also explains the attitude that "you can have it as I make it, or go somewhere else."

I hope he'll pass on his expertise, design, and manufacturing assets to someone who will continue to build this trailer. If a successor were to introduce a propane version and I happened to be overcome by a desire for a larger bed and a bathroom, it might become one of my top choices. I will confess a preference for the sleek aesthetic of all-fiberglass interiors. But I've camped 42 days in my Scamp and I have yet to plug in the electric cord. So, for now, it's off my radar.

I just checked the EggCamper web site and it says that the "2015 production has been sold out." So I guess Jim Palmer has all the business he wants - or can handle.

In one of the video clips, he mentions that he hopes that some day someone takes over and builds EggCampers............ I was really wanting one but the ac under the seat and with my son having to sleep there, it just would not work. Considered getting one without ac and doing my own thing with it but prefer, since spending what is a generous sum to me, to get a unit that meets my needs without modification. I would, however, not pay the new price.

LOL, Cathy… I rarely pay the "new" price for anything, especially vehicles, recreational or otherwise. Gently used works for me!
But I agree, $25K seems high given the competition in mid-size molded fiberglass trailers. Markets have a way of equalizing over time, though. If the increase is justified in terms of costs, I suspect others will follow. If not, EggCamper may fade into retirement along with its owner. That would be sad.

Width, too. Means a wider aisle and longer bed. And without a weight penalty, as far as I can tell, though if EggCamper ever went to LP, that might change.

Funny enough our declining Canadian Dollar has resulted in their paying more for the parts out of the US to build the trailer which is why they needed to raise the price.

Its actually REALLY high when you realize that its US$6784K more than an Escape 17' that has a longer list of standard features.
A new 17' Escape Plan B is C$22,900 or US$18,216 (based on todays exchange rate).

Although that $6784 may be lowered by shipping or the cost of driving to BC, Canada to pick it up (both in terms of time and expenses)

Or not, if you live in Washington State or Oregon, for instance.
