With great sorrow we said goodbye to the best companion and camping buddy we could ever imagine. Chert was nearly 14 and had struggled with some daunting health problems over the years but had survived with a great attitude and seemed to be doing so well until just a couple of weeks ago. A sudden and very quickly progressing illness left us with the decision to end her suffering. She was a perfect example of what wonderful friends await adoption at the local pound. Our hearts will never be the same.

Rescues typically give back ten-fold the new owner's kindness. Sounds like this pound puppy was a great companion. I bet you have many wonderful memories to help you through.

I have been in your shoes a few times in my life. It is just the saddest thing. Have yourselves a few good cries and then go find yourself your next best buddy!

Chert will be happy if you do.

Only an owner who has suffered a similar loss can understand the depth and breadth of your sorrow. Our deepest sympathy.

oh no. Not Chert....

Chert was a wonderful dog and I am deeply saddened. But I know all too well about the Rainbow Bridge and am happy she is there and out of pain, waiting for you.

She will be seeing my Kitty that she has helped with her raised bed (One old girl to another) soon, I am sure. I will tell Kitty to watch for her when her day comes and to go take special care of Chert and be her friend until we all come for them.

I am so sorry for your loss. Chert was VERY special.

I am so sorry to hear of the loss of your beloved camping partner! In your heart he will always be... maybe someday you will find another one to fill the void.. not to replace, but to love some other dog that needs a loving home....

Christi ....while she wasn't a camping partner, she went everywhere else with us (rod runs as well) but we too had to lay to rest our then 12 1/2 year old Shephard. 3rd hardest thing I've ever had to deal with. I'm tearing up inside sharing in your grief!!

Sorry for your grief. I know how deep and painful it can be. I lost my best buddy this summer and the tears are still never far away. We'll never forget our good friends. I hope you'll share your love with a new camping buddy as soon as you think you can. They give us so much.

Thanks to everyone for your kind thoughts, and our deepest compassion to those sharing a similar loss.

Gina, please give Kitty a big hug from us - you'll both be in our thoughts.

You are right. Your hearts will never be the same. We too, lost Molly -- our camping and everything else buddy this winter and are still overwhelmed with the loss some days. A strong belief in the rainbow bridge and the knowledge that we were there to shorten the pain at the end gets me through the difficult days.

Sending a huge hug your way...

I'm very sorry to hear about your loss. I know how hard it is and my prayers are with you through this difficult time.

The joy mine have brought to my life over the years outweighs the sadness that comes when they had to leave.

After giving us so much joy, they sure do leave big holes in our lives when we have to say good-bye. I know your little buddy will live on in your heart.

Our hearts go out to you in your time of grief. It's been a little over a year since we said goodbye to our companion of 12 years, Karmann. While we still miss her, we found the strength to move on and adopted a new puppy, Frida, who give us joy daily and helps to fill the void.
