Water pressure pump in 16’ Scamp, 12v.

When the switch is on, is the pump using electricity?, or only when pumping?

Headed RMNP and want to conserve battery power.

It's not advisable to leave the pump turned on in any case. If a tap somehow gets turned on or if there is a leak in the plumbing, you can fill your trailer with water and empty your fresh water tank.

Great advice. Didn’t think about what could go wrong. Leaking could occur if connected to city water too.

So, I accept the advice. But does the pump draw current when idle?

NO ; if the pump motor is not running / pumping then no power is being consumed . The pump is controlled by a simple pressure switch (On or Off) and the switch does not consume power. IE ; NO phantom load

The pump only draws power only when pumping, unless it's not properly adjusted.
Easy check: Unplug shore power so trailer is on battery only and turn on a light.
Light will probably dim when water is used and return to full brightness when not.
If light stays dimmed, pump pressure switch needs adjusting.
As already stated, switch should be off when water is not needed, especially when you are away from the trailer or towing.
