Annual Christmas Rant Part Second
This is mine own rant, not mine Papas- several years (decades) ago I asked why there are penguins in so much Christmas illustrating, when penguins range from the Equator to the South Pole? They aren't birds of the Northern Hemisphere like auks, puffins, murres, and dovekies.
I'm boycotting Christmas cards with penguins in the interest of ornithogical exactness. Unless it's Opus. If you're a friend of Opus you'll dig the reference.
Carry on with prior programming please.

Not to worry, our Festivus cards only have the traditional Festivus pole.

Hi: Mitzi Agnew-Giles... Canada's new National Bird is the Grey Jay. We don't have any in our part of Ontario due to the Florida like climate. I voted for the Canada Goose!!!

A man in a movie theater notices what looks like a penguin sitting next to him.
"Are you a penguin?" asked the man, surprised.
"Yes."
"What are you doing at the movies?"
The penguin replied, "Well, I liked the book."

If you call the Grey Jay by its other name, it's a lot more appealing - Whiskey Jack.
Doesn't make a huge racket and crap everywhere either.

Or, a Canada Jay.

Bird
The grey jay, also gray jay, Canada jay or whisky jack, is a passerine bird of the family Corvidae. It is found in boreal forests of North America north to the tree line and in the Rocky Mountains subalpine zone south to New Mexico and Arizona. Wikipedia
Scientific name: Perisoreus canadensis
Higher classification: Perisoreus
Rank: Species

The biggest problem I have with the Grey Jay, is the fact that they are willing scavengers and mooches, and so many people have thought this so cute and feed them all the time. They now expect that, and just steal food right from under your nose if you don't watch it.

Hi: Casita Greg... If the Grey Jay tastes like chicken... why not just eat chicken?

A couple years back, while snowshoeing we stopped for lunch about halfway up a small mountain in Jasper. Of course the whiskey jacks made an appearance. One of them was so bold as to land on me and grab a piece of food that was literally in my mouth.

You have me beat, I have only had them grab food out of my hand. One of the issues with humans wanting to interact with wildlife. These birds have it good, the resultant with bears is often not as nice.

We were camped in the Sierra's a few years ago.....my wife and I were walking through the campground and came upon a grandmother who was encouraging her 6 year old granddaughter to get closer to that "cute little bear cub" for a picture. The mother bear was about 20 yard away. I ran up to the little girl and grabbed her and proceeded to tell grandma that was a good way to loose that little girl. Grandma said she had no idea. Later that evening.....the little girl's Dad came into our campground with a bottle of wine and thanked us. I believe he also had a talk with his mother in law as well.

Do not isolate the poor penguins further. They are victims of a polar shift. They use to be in the north pole with Santa then the magnetic poles swapped ends. Santa and his reindeer can fly so they went back to the new north pole. Poor little penguins did not have the means to fly back to the new north pole and penguins were stranded down south. Santa replaced his penguin labor force with elves but no one knows exactly where they originally came from. Elves were required to be paid minimum wages and that started the whole commercialization of Christmas. Prior to Elves in the program you didn't have to pay to take your picture with Santa. Penguins have gotten the raw deal and now you want to eliminate them from the whole program completely. Pick on someone your own size.

Think of penguins as the reindeer of the southern hemisphere (like penguins, they don't really fly either)
