boler rescued and " hello!"

Hello everyone,

My name is John and I live in London, Canada. Happy to introduce myself to this cool forum!

I have wanted a boler for awhile now, never thought I could find OR afford one! That all changed just a month ago...

While out in the country I saw a sad boler with its door off sitting in the weeds out back of a barn...talked with the elderly farmer who bought it off the original owner in '74 and was just really wanting to see it go to a good home and was happy about my keen attitude. He knew they are collectible and are desirable. I asked him how much ?... he replied " give me $500 "

There is work to be done, it has a bit of rot in the rear plywood floor and the one hinge is broken. Looks different compared to all the other hinges I have found on line. Will need guidance on how to fix these two items. But besides that, I slapped on some new tires and towed her home...all the lights were still working perfectly!

Sorry for the long winded message! Hope to get the door fixed and floor patched up to fully enjoy camping this summer!

Take care everyone!

Welcome to the forum, John!

I'd say of all the pieces are present, you did very well. Good eye!

If needed, Scamp hinges (old style; they recently switched to a totally different design) can substitute. I'm assuming you can still order the old style from Scamp- call to check. Fiberglass work will be needed because the Scamp hinges have 3 bolts on the body side; Boler has 2. If the main hinge pieces that bolt to the trailer are sound and only the guts are bad, member Ian G. sells a rebuild kit.

For lots of excellent help and inspiration, here's a like to Ian's renovation thread: Project Boler
Under his posts are links to his website and Boler guide.

Best wishes on your rehab! Hope you'll post pictures as you go, starting with some more "before" shots. FYI, with newer mobile devices, the forum software seems to prefer landscape shots (home button on right). As you see, others don't orient correctly.

She looks kind of like my recent Casita purchase. Kind of sad and in the need of a dedicated friend. I am sure she is in good hands. When you come up with questions, you are in the right place. Good luck on your project!

Hi John, You really hit the jackpot. $500 - Wow!! You will have some work ahead of you, but that is half the fun.

You will find the following site helpful http://www.proud-canadian.com/13-bol...eyond-1/boler/

Hope you get it back together in time to join us at the 50th Boler Anniversary in Winnipeg in August. Boler 50th Anniversary 1968-2018 – Boler 50th Anniversary 1968-2018

There is a wealth of information here and many videos on YouTube as well if you are a visual learner like me.

Hi John; - Whattafind. Congrats are due. Have fun with your rebuild. Be sure to check out Paul Newmeister at 'A-!' Auto in Sebringville, ON - just down the road from you. Paul is the Boler 'Guru', not only for your portion of Ontario; but, he is also well known in neighbouring 'states'. And welcome to FGRV - I have currently recorded 420 currently active members here in 'our' province... Dave, another Ontarian, about 400 km NE of you.

I have been chatting with John on this great find, it is a 1968 flat top, serial number 065. What a great piece of history in great shape.

I realize that everything is relative. But, "great shape" is not how I would describe the condition of this trailer. Great deal? Yes. Maybe even good bones.
